Matt Bacon

Matt is an experienced multidisciplinary designer, creative practitioner, and educationalist with over 25 years’ experience in higher education. His expertise spans technology-enhanced learning, visual development, agile learning spaces, educational design, user experience design, and curriculum development.
His practice bridges creative process and design methodologies, moving ideas from ideation to production across diverse contexts. Matt has led multidisciplinary design teams, developed educational apps for early learners, and designed data-driven teacher dashboards that translate complex learning analytics into actionable insights for teachers.
His technical expertise encompasses AR and VR applications, user interface design for corporate and educational outcomes, and the implementation of large-scale gamified data collection platforms. As a foundational member of an ed-tech company (splatmaths.com.au) and through extensive collaboration with federal government departments, he brings both entrepreneurial and policy-level perspectives to educational innovation. His leadership of multi-million dollar research projects has required sophisticated project management capabilities alongside deep pedagogical understanding, positioning him to deliver outcomes that are both technically robust and educationally sound.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Industrial Design and a Master of New Media Arts. He is currently completing a PhD investigating drawing and STEM capability in primary-aged children, research that continues his longstanding commitment to understanding how design thinking supports learning.
